On February 1 and 2, 2012 the Minister of Justice tabled in the House of Commons and the Senate, respectively, the second Annual Report under the Statutes Repeal Act (SRA). The SRA helps ensure that consideration is given to bringing legislation into force. Until laws come into force, they are not binding and have no legal effect.
This report lists provisions of Acts that have not been brought into force within 9 years of their enactment. All the listed laws will be repealed at the end of the year (that is, on December 31, 2012) unless they are brought into force before that date or a resolution of one House of Parliament defers their repeal.
Provisions in 32 Acts listed in the 2011 Annual Report were repealed on December 31, 2011 by operation of the SRA. Notice of the repeals has been published in the Canada Gazette, Part I.
